The Technical Guide to Large-Format Porcelain Slabs in Pakistan
### Understanding Large-Format Porcelain Slabs

Over the past three years, 120×240cm and 160×320cm porcelain slabs have become the surface of choice for luxury villas in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. However, many homeowners suffer from cracked slabs or hollow sounds within months of moving in.

Why does this happen?

Standard tile layers treat large porcelain slabs like small 30×30cm ceramic tiles. They apply cement blobs ("sand-cement screed") onto uneven floors and press the slab by hand. Because large porcelain slabs are extremely rigid, any void underneath creates a point of high stress. When heavy furniture or high heels step over an air void, the slab snaps.

### The ArchéTile 4-Rule Large Slab Protocol

1. **Sub-floor Flatness Audit (Precision Flatness Standard)** Before laying a single slab, the sub-floor must be checked with a 2-metre straightedge and optical laser level. Any dip greater than 1mm must be filled with high-flow self-levelling compound.

2. **Double-Slurry Buttering (100% Coverage)** Mortar must be combed in straight parallel lines on BOTH the back of the slab and the floor substrate using a 10mm slant-notch trowel. This eliminates air pockets when pressed down.

3. **Vacuum Suction Frame Lifting** A 3-metre porcelain slab weighs up to 80 kg and can flex centrally under its own weight. We use aluminum rigid frames with multiple vacuum suction cups to move and position slabs without edge stress.

4. **Deformable Flexible Polymer Adhesives** Ordinary cement shrinks as it cures, snapping porcelain slabs. We exclusively specify highly deformable polymer-modified adhesives that absorb building movement and thermal expansion.
